In the summer of 1942, fourteen-year-old Homer Macauley takes on a responsibility far beyond his years. With his older brother away fighting in the war, Homer works as a bicycle telegraph messenger while trying to help support his widowed mother, older sister, and young brother. Every day, Homer races through his small California town delivering messages to ordinary families. Some bring love and hope, while others carry heartbreaking news from the battlefields. With each delivery, the young messenger begins to understand how deeply the distant war is affecting the people around him. As Homer grows more confident in his new role, the messages he carries force him to confront emotions that are difficult for a young boy to understand. His work becomes a journey into responsibility, loss, courage, and the painful transition from childhood toward adulthood. Surrounded by family, neighbors, and people whose lives are connected by the war, Homer discovers that even the smallest act can carry enormous meaning. This emotional wartime drama is a story about family, hope, sacrifice, and the message that can change a young man's life forever.
