⭐ Roses Are Red (1947) Full Movie | Don Castle | Film Noir | Public Domain
Roses Are Red (1947) is a fast-moving crime drama directed by James Tinling and starring Don Castle in a dual role as newly elected district attorney Robert A. Thorne and his near-identical double, ex-convict Don Carney. When crooked political boss Jim Locke has Thorne kidnapped, his plan is to replace the honest prosecutor with Carney and gain control over the district attorney’s office. But Thorne manages to turn the scheme against the criminals, assuming Carney’s identity and infiltrating the organization from within while his fiancée Martha McCormack, played by Peggy Knudsen, tries to understand what has happened to him. Written by Irving Elman and produced by Sol M. Wurtzel, Roses Are Red blends film noir atmosphere, political corruption, mistaken identity, kidnapping, murder, and undercover intrigue into a compact 67-minute thriller. The supporting cast includes Patricia Knight, Joe Sawyer, Edward Keane, Charles McGraw, Charles Lane, and early appearances by Jeff Chandler and James Arness. With its shadowy criminal world and clever double-identity premise, the film is a strong example of the economical crime programmers produced by Hollywood during the postwar noir era.
